The Studio Horizon: The Journey Ahead

As the height of the Australian summer brings a particular clarity to the light, it also marks a pivotal transition within my practice. My focus over the recent months has been dedicated to the discipline of drawing—using the precision of graphite and the atmospheric versatility of pastel to document the intricate textures of the Murrumbidgee and the Australian coastline. These collections, Natural Observations, Sky Studies and A Remembrance of Sea and Stone, are the foundational language of my work: a commitment to refined observation and technical rigour.
Starting later this January, I am moving into a phase of deliberate expansion. I am commencing a series of formal studio intensives designed to integrate the depth of oil and acrylic painting into my existing repertoire of drawing and tonal studies. This is not a departure from my current methodology, but an evolution of it. The goal is to translate the sophisticated line work and textural nuances found in my graphite studies onto a larger, more expansive scale.

This period of growth is a prerequisite for my upcoming flagship collection of works. By further refining my mastery of colour theory and fluid media, I am preparing to capture the Australian landscape with a new level of atmospheric complexity. The studio is now a space of active research—bridging the gap between the intimate detail of the sketch and the visceral impact of the canvas.
I look forward to sharing the results of this evolution as these new works take shape in preparation for my Preview Evening this November.
